Project description

Since 2022, a young vegetable farmer has established her farm on a 2-hectare plot, which faces strong westward winds. This project aims to improve growing conditions and support sustainable resource management.

To shield the crops from dominant winds, a short-rotation coppice will be planted to the south, near the vegetable tunnels, creating a natural windbreak. A second coppice, also short-rotation, will be planted along the western edge of the plot, providing wood chips for mulching vegetable beds. This mulching approach not only improves soil fertility but also reduces the need for external inputs.

The project will continue with further hedgerow planting the following year, reinforcing the farm’s ecological network in this area, classified as a ZNIEFF type 2 zone, where biodiversity preservation is essential.
