Vegetable farming

Trees as allies to optimize vegetable growth

At the forefront of climate change effects, vegetable farming has no choice but to adapt, particularly through agroforestry techniques. MyTree works alongside farmers to plant trees that will provide protection and fertility to the soil.

Trees promote soil regeneration

Planting trees within vegetable crops is beneficial in several ways. The deep roots of trees increase soil permeability, which promotes the presence of microorganisms. These trees, known as "nutrient pumps," bring nutrients to the surface and work closely with these microorganisms, which decompose leaves, branches, and tree roots. The result of this collaboration is a soil rich in organic and mineral matter. The optimal density to ensure good fertility of the plots is 50 to 100 trees per hectare.

Trees as hydraulic lifts

Water... a precious and rare resource at the heart of vegetable farmer's concerns. Planted near vegetable plots, trees act as real hydraulic lifts by bringing deep water to the surface, which is otherwise inaccessible to crop roots. Moreover, the rooting of an agroforestry tree is deeper than that of a forest tree! Additionally, tree roots improve soil permeability, facilitating water infiltration into groundwater tables.

Trees and their cooling power

Like natural air conditioners, the presence of trees near vegetable crops maintains atmospheric humidity through the process of evapotranspiration. Composed of plants with diverse cover, tree rows significantly reduce the climatic and water stress on vegetables, resulting in increased yields while reducing the need for irrigation.
